Concealed handgun class in Odessa raises red flags
PERMIAN BASIN, Texas - Feb. 3, 2012 — Better Business Bureau is warning consumers in the Permian Basin to be wary of a Feb. 5 class advertised as a “no-shoot, no-test” means of obtaining a Florida concealed handgun license. The advertisement may not be in line with Florida state law.
An ad ran in the Odessa American and claims Dixon CHL Classes will provide a Florida Certificate of Competence after a five-hour seminar. A $75 deposit is required to sign up for the class, and a phone number is the only contact information provided. BBB has no record of Dixon CHL Classes.
BBB contacted the Texas Department of Public Safety, and a representative said that a Florida concealed carry license would be valid in Texas. However, a representative of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said all concealed carry licenses issued by that state require range training and testing.
Consumers should be extremely wary of this seminar. Those interested in obtaining a concealed carry license should visit the Texas DPS website.
